SigEp is saddened by the passing of Brother Herb Philpott, Dartmouth ’85, who dedicated nearly 20 years of service to his home chapter, New Hampshire Alpha. His professional life was spent in working high-tech positions, including for Steve Jobs at NeXT Computer and Apple.
Philpott held a variety of roles on his home chapter’s alumni and volunteer corporation (AVC), including six years as AVC president. He made an enormous impact in that role, recruiting six new members — including alumni, university administrators and other non-member stakeholders — to serve on the AVC.
Prior to that, he chaired New Hampshire Alpha’s centennial celebration committee, organizing a two-day event that included a reception, panel discussions and a closing banquet.
He also left an indelible mark on the chapter home. Philpott served as secretary for the AVC’s 2010-2011 capital campaign, utilizing his technical expertise to organize online and teleconferences so committee members could meet virtually. He later served as vice president of housing from 2017 to 2019.
Brother Philpott was a faculty member at several Carlson Leadership Academies and also performed with the Conclave Chorus. He created the SigEp Sings Scholarship to send undergraduate brothers with a passion for singing to Conclave.
For his many contributions to the Fraternity, Philpott was recognized with the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2010 and the Distinguished Volunteer Award in 2016. Brothers will remember him for the warmth, generosity and joy he brought to all who knew him.
